VirtualBox 3.1 Dengan Live Migration

Sun Microsystems merilis solusi virtualisasi VirtualBox 3.1 yang menyertakan fitur Live-Migration dan peningkatan kecepatan. VirtualBox adalah sebuah solusi virtualisasi Desktop yang memungkinkan sebuah komputer virtual ditampilkan dalam sebuah jendela. Cara kerjanya serupa dengan solusi yang ditawarkan VMware dan KVM.

Versi VirtualBox 3.1 merupakan versi dengan peningkatan langkah besar dan ketimbang versi 3.0 sebelumnya ia telah meng-update dengan menambahkan sejumlah fitur baru seperti "Teleportation", yang memungkinkan pemindahan sesi mesin virtual ke komputer lain. Live-Migration dapat dilaksanakan tanpa pemutusan koneksi jaringan dan juga bisa dilakukan ke komputer yang memiliki CPU atau Sistem Operasi yang berbeda dari sistem asalnya.

Menurut keterangan dari situs Sun, kecepatan pada versi terbaru ini telah ditingkatkan berikut penambahan fitur skala perusahan. Status dari mesin virtual bisa diambil dari salah satu rangkaian snapshots, tidak sekedar dari snapshot terakhir, seperti pada versi sebelumnya. Pengguna dapat juga mengambil snapshot baru dari salah satu snapshot yang ada.

Seperti pada versi sebelumnya, VirtualBox 3.1 menyediakan edisi Open-Source disamping edisi proprietari yang menyertakan fitur tambahan.

• USB filters can now be disabled;
• Added support for the GL_EXT_compiled_vertex_array and GL_EXT_framebuffer_object xtensions;
• The FarCry, Call of Duty, SecondLife, Unreal Tournament and Eve Online games will no longer crash;
• Fixed a display issue for World of Warcraft;
• Fixed some animation issues;
• iSCSI targets with a capacity over 2TiB are now supported;
• Shared folders that contain files with the same name as the directory can now be mounted on Linux guests.
